I read about the upcoming change to patient chart ID's:
The new patient chart ID format will launch next month as part of the effort to prevent duplicate patient charts. Any new patient chart will use the new format — first two letters of last name + first two letters of first name + 8 random alphanumeric characters. Example: LAFIX60CE29C
This is a HORRIBLE idea. The chart ID is long enough already but at least it makes a bit of sense. To change to 8 random alphanumeric characters is a huge mistake. We take online payments that need a chart ID. The chances of someone entering one of the new chart ID's correctly is slim. Please just leave this alone. There is no reason to make changes like this.
